Hambo Limited has stated that the Advocacy Chambers law firm has spread lies about the company not being in existence anymore while Hambo Limited has been ordered by the court to hand over the K-Park apartments and compensate buyers.
Many buyers who paid for K-Park apartments in Hulhumale' say they have neither received their units nor refunds, and have filed complaints seeking prosecution and enforcement of judgments against the developer. Advocacy Chambers, which represents some of the affected buyers, said that Hambo Limited is no longer in existence. This prompted the law firm to request a meeting with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Hambo Limited released a statement denying Advocacy Chambers' claims, stating that the law firm is working to protect Hassan Mamdhooh (Mandey), who caused damages to the buyers of the apartments, and has harmed the company as well. Instead of compensating those involved and seeking justice from the court, the law firm is working to put out press releases, send letters to the HDC and to make it public to the media.
The statement reads that they are unsure as to who the law firm is representing and that the firm had not responded to the letter sent by the company in 2025 in their attempts to obtain said information.
The statement goes on to say that as Mamdhooh has been sentenced by the Criminal Court to more than 390 years in prison for offences involving the sale of K-Park flats, it is clear which party ]has conducted the acts of fraud. The statement also reads that Mamdhooh had misled both the company and the public as well.
"And so, the lawyers should know who should be prosecuted and there is no reason as to why the lawyers should always be sending letters to various agencies as if they are unsure of the situation," the statement read.
According to the statement, law firms aside from Advocacy Chambers have filed charges to the Civil Court regarding the K-Park incident, with them understanding as to who needs to be prosecuted.
"As the company exists and as judicial rulings have made it clear that we are a company who have the legal capacity, Advocacy Chambers' acts in spreading lies is their attempt to shield their clients from the truth," as per the statement.
Hambo Limited, which developed the K-Park housing project, has been ordered by the courts to hand over apartments and compensate buyers. However, lawyers say the company has failed to appear in proceedings and that court judgments remain unenforced.
The case is linked to one of the largest housing fraud prosecutions in the country. Hassan Mamdhooh (Mandey), a shareholder of Hambo Limited, was sentenced by the Criminal Court to more than 390 years in prison for offences involving the sale of K-Park flats.
He was convicted on 104 counts, including selling the same units to multiple buyers and misappropriating proceeds for personal use. The charges included 50 counts of fraud, 50 counts of obtaining illicit benefit through misrepresentation, three counts of issuing invalid documents, and one count of money laundering.
His co-accused, Jaishan Saeed of Raa Atoll Alifushi, was sentenced to more than 159 years in prison after being convicted on 86 of 95 charges.
The sentences are among the longest ever handed down by Maldivian courts.
In addition to prison terms, the court ordered Mamdhooh to repay all funds taken from victims and imposed a MVR 30 million fine for money laundering. The court also ordered the seizure of a penthouse apartment he purchased in Hulhumale'.
