The People's National Congress's (PNC) National Council passed last night to hold their congress earlier as it would overlap with the O' Level examination dates.

A senior official from PNC told Mihaaru News that the congress being moved up in the timeline was proposed during last night's meeting by PNC President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. According to the official, it was passed as a majority of members who had taken part in the congress had voted in favor of it.

"The previous date for the congress fell during the GCE O' Level exam days. And so, the President requested it be moved up," said the official.

PNC's leadership previously decided to hold the party's congress in October.

During the celebration rally held at Rasdhoo on 19th April to mark PNC winning AA. Thoddoo and Rasdhoo in the Local Council Election in April, President Muizzu called for preparations to begin across Maldives for PNC's congress.

At the time, the President said that it will be the most important time they will have to strengthen themselves as per the party's democracy rules.

The President stated that in the coming days, all of the islands across Maldives need to begin preparations for the congress. The President also called for work to begin on electing the best candidates for the congress, where candidates will be elected for important positions such as constituency and island Steering Committee Presidents.

"This is the most important time to strengthen ourselves upon party democracy rules. In the coming days, all our supporters in all islands need to begin preparations for the congress," said President Muizzu in his capacity as PNC's President.

The President went on to say that candidates who prioritize the interests of the nation, islands and industry should be elected for congress by the islands.
