The Malé Taxi Line app, launched two months ago, is now available for download on Apple devices through the App Store.
Until now, customers could book rides through the Male' Taxi Line hotline, 1655, or via the service's web application. Payments were processed through a web link after a booking was made.
The company said an Android version of the app will soon be released via Google Play.
New users are required to register through the application before booking a ride. Customers can then select "Book Now", confirm their location and choose a payment method.
The app offers several payment options. Users can top up a digital wallet directly from their bank account, make card payments through a bank gateway before starting a journey, or use the Scan to Pay feature to settle fares at the end of a trip.
Passengers can also schedule rides in advance, provided bookings are made at least three hours before the intended departure time.
Other features include driver messaging and calling, trip history, information on upcoming bookings, wallet balance tracking and a tool for reporting lost items left in vehicles.
The application also includes an SOS emergency feature, designed for situations in which customers feel unsafe during a journey.
Users are able to rate their experience and provide feedback at the end of each trip.
The Male' Taxi service launched with a fleet of 150 vehicles and operates around the clock at the taxi fares set by the Ministry of Transport for Male' and Hulhumale'.
The service was first introduced on 2 April through a web application. However, following security issues that forced the platform offline, rides were offered free of charge. The free service was initially intended to run for one week but was extended to more than two weeks while security issues were resolved.
