A fire broke out at a fibre workshop in Shaviyani Atoll Milandhoo on Monday night.

Videos shared on social media showed flames and thick smoke rising from  "Adamkoibe" fibre works boatyard area.

The footage also showed large numbers of islanders gathering at the scene and assisting in firefighting efforts.

A resident speaking from the island said the fire broke out near the airport development site in Milandhoo.

According to the resident, several dinghies were moved to safety, but two vessels caught fire before the blaze spread across the area.

The cause of the fire or extent of injuries has not yet been determined.
