Joint surgery using nano needles has been introduced at the government’s main hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

In a video released by the hospital last night orthopedic surgeon Dr Hussain Shakeel said the technique allows doctors to examine knee damage by inserting a camera into the joint through a narrow space using an arthroscopic nano needle, reducing the need for open surgery.

Orthopedic specialist Dr Ismail Zahir said the procedure enables doctors to assess joint damage, including bone growth and cartilage condition, in greater detail.

“It has made diagnosis much easier. we can diagnose without an MRI. This is a huge improvement in the treatment of smaller joints,” he said.

Dr Asad Shaheed said recovery and discharge after the procedure would also be quicker, noting that it can be performed as a day-care surgery, improving overall surgical capacity.

The hospital has recently introduced a range of new services aimed at expanding and modernizing treatment options at IGMH.
