Human Organ Transplant Bill returned without ratification

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu returned the Human Organ Transplant Bill to the Parliament, requesting a re-evaluation of the bill.

The President's Office stated that President Muizzu returned the bill to the parliament for reconsideration without ratifying it, after it was passed by the parliament on the 14th of this month.

The President's Office noted that the President made this decision after taking into account the difficulties that could arise in implementing the matters contained in the bill along with the amendments brought to it by the parliament when it was passed.

The President's Office said that the President determined that it is necessary to review the bill as it currently stands and bring certain amendments to it.

Therefore, the President's Office stated that the President returned the bill to the parliament for the Majlis to reconsider the Human Organ Transplant Bill.

The purpose of the bill passed by the parliament is stated to be the establishment of a robust system for the transplantation of human organs and parts of organs. The bill also states that its purpose is to formulate the required legal framework and establish the principles necessary to ensure that organ transplant services are high-quality, accessible to everyone, and provided in a sustainable manner.

The bill was submitted to the parliament on behalf of the government by Feydhoo South Constituency PNC Member Ibrahim Didi (IB).
