Strong winds and heavy rain have torn the roofs off two houses in Addu Hithadhoo, prompting emergency assistance from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
MNDF said officers from its Southern Area Command were deployed after the roofs of two homes, Hulhudhuaage and Okamlivaage, were blown off during severe weather conditions in Hithadhoo.
A yellow weather alert remains in effect for the area from Gaafu Alifu Atoll to Addu City until 4:15pm.
MNDF said heavy rainfall in Feydhoo caused flooding on several roads. Pumps were deployed from 3:45pm on Saturday, and floodwaters have since been drained.
Flooding was also reported on roads in Gaafu Dhaalu Madaveli, where MNDF teams carried out drainage operations.
Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued yellow alerts for the southernmost atolls as well as the northern region from Haa Alifu Atoll to Raa Atoll.
MET office said heavy rain, thunderstorms and winds of up to 35mph, with rough sea conditions expected in affected areas.
The highest rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours was in Addu Gan, which received 106.7mm of rain, while Hithadhoo recorded 64.9mm of rain.
In Gaafu Dhaalu Kaadedhdhoo, 102.7mm of rainfall was recorded, while Hanimaadhoo saw 68.6mm of rain.
