The Ministry of Health has opened bids for the construction of laboratories in 15 islands with existing health centres, as part of a nationwide effort to expand access to laboratory services.
The ministry announced the tender on Sunday under the government’s broader project to establish laboratory services in 76 islands that currently lack such facilities.
President Mohamed Muizzu said in this year’s presidential address that laboratories in all 76 islands would be completed before the end of the year.
The government has also awarded a separate project to State Trading Organization (STO) to replace damaged and non-functional medical machinery and equipment that had reportedly fallen into disrepair over several years.
The 15 islands included in the latest tender are:

- Noonu Kudafari
- Noonu Fodhdhoo
- Baa Kudarikilu
- Baa Dhonfanu
- Meemu Raiymandhoo
- Laamu Mundoo
- Laamu Kunahandhoo
- Shaviyani Goidhoo
- Haa Alifu Muraidhoo
- Haa Dhaalu Kumundhoo
- Haa Dhaalu Naivaadhoo
- Thaa Omadhoo
- Thaa Gaadhiffushi
- Alifu Dhaalu Dhidhdhoo
Interested parties have been asked to complete registration and submit applications by email before 1pm on 8 June.
