All but one of the Maldivian pilgrims performing this year’s Hajj have arrived in Arafat, according to Minister of Islamic Affairs Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
Pilgrims began their journey to Arafat at 9 pm Saudi time on Thursday night.
In a message to the media on Friday morning, Shaheem said one pilgrim receiving treatment at a hospital in Mina had been unable to travel to Arafat with the rest of the group.
“One pilgrim is admitted to Mina hospital and receiving treatment. God willing, he will also be taken to Arafat. Hajj Corporation assistants are working with him. Everything is fine. Alhamdhulillahi,” Shaheem said.
Today marks the Day of Arafat, one of the most significant rituals of the Hajj pilgrimage, during which around two million Muslims from across the world gather at the holy site.
Pilgrims are expected to depart for Muzdalifah later tonight.
A total of 1,019 pilgrims from Maldives are taking part in this year’s Hajj.
The Maldives Hajj Corporation had previously said pilgrims would remain in Saudi Arabia for 22 days, with return flights to Maldives scheduled to begin from the end of next month.
