The National Centre for the Holy Quran has announced that it is seeking a participant to represent the Maldives in the "King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization, Recitation and Interpretation of the Holy Qur'an" held in Saudi Arabia.
While the Maldives has received an invitation to participate in the 46th edition of this competition held in Makkah, one female and one male participant will be selected for each of the two categories: memorization and recitation.
Among the requirements to participate in the competition are:
- Being a Maldivian citizen
- Being under 25 years of age
- Not having participated in the competition previously
The categories available to participate in the competition are:
- Memorization of the entire Quran category: The applicant must be someone who can recite the entire Quran from memory alongside the rules of Tajweed, and must hold a Hifz certificate.
- Memorization of 15 consecutive chapters category: The applicant must be someone who can recite 15 consecutive chapters of the Quran in order, from memory, along with the rulings of Tajweed.
According to the National Centre for the Holy Quran, the participants who will represent the Maldives will be chosen after a special exam conducted among the applicants.
It also stated that if a person with special needs or a child under 17 years of age is selected, the organizers of the competition will arrange for a guardian to accompany them.
The final deadline to submit application forms to apply for the competition is the third day of next month.
