A man who went missing in the Hulhumale' lagoon near State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) last evening has been found dead, authorities said today.

According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the victim was a crew member who had entered the water from an oil barge anchored north of the Hulhule Seaplane Terminal.

His body was later recovered from the seaplane terminal lagoon.

The deceased was identified as 48-year-old Ibrahim Shakir from Kaafu Guraidhoo.

The search and recovery operation involved the MNDF, police and the airport rescue team.

Marine Police said the body was found in a deep section of the Hulhumale' lagoon.

Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the incident.
