The National Pay Commission (NPC) has decided to drastically increase the salary of both city and island Presidents of Women's Development Committees (WDC).

Currently, WDC Presidents for cities receive a monthly salary of MVR 7,000. Vice Presidents receive MVR 6,500 and members receive MVR 6,000.

WDC Presidents for islands receive a monthly salary of MVR 6,000. Vice Presidents receive MVR 5,500 and members receive MVR 5,000.

However, as it has been determined that WDCs will be working full-time, the NPC has reviewed the salaries of WDC Presidents and have come to the conclusion to set MVR 41,500 as the monthly salary for WDC Presidents of cities and to set MVR 21,000 as the monthly salary for WDC Presidents of islands.

The salary for WDC Presidents of cities is split as follows: A salary of MVR 33,000 and a living allowance of MVR 8,500. The salary for WDC Presidents of islands is split as follows: A salary of MVR 16,500 and a living allowance of MVR 4,500.

Even though the NPC has made that decision, sources have told Mihaaru News that the Local Government Authority (LGA) initially issued to the NPC that WDC Presidents for cities are to receive MVR 20,000 per month and WDC Presidents for islands are to receive MVR 15,000 per month.

In accordance with that change, the salary for Vice Presidents of city WDCs and island WDCs, and committee members have seen changes as well. The salary for Vice Presidents of city WDCs has seen an increment to MVR 7,000, with them receiving a meeting allowance of MVR 500 for each meeting they attend.

The salary for Vice Presidents of island WDCs has seen an increment of MVR 6,000, with them receiving a meeting allowance of MVR 500 for each meeting they attend. Even though there were no changes to the salaries of committee members, they will also receive a meeting allowance of MVR 500 for each meeting they attend, as per the NPC's decision.

The newly elected Presidents of the WDCs have been informed of the salary changes.
