President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed a new member to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to fill a vacant seat on the commission.

According to the President’s Office, Ali Naseer Gasim, Dhaftharu number 535, was appointed to the commission today.

Naseer has previously served as a member of the Police Board.

He was sworn in as a member of the JSC by Supreme Court Justice Ali Rasheed Hussain.

The vacancy arose following the resignation of Yazmeed on Sunday, who had been appointed to the commission on February 23, 2025.

His resignation came after an alleged audio recording circulated on social media, purportedly featuring a voice urging people not to vote for the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) during the recent local council elections.

The Judicial Service Commission is composed of members representing various institutions and sectors, including a public representative appointed by Parliament, the chairperson of the Civil Service Commission, the Attorney General, a presidential appointee, a lawyer elected by lawyers, and judges appointed from the lower courts and the High Court.
