The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has stated that parents of persons with disabilities can now apply for flats under the "Category for Persons with Disabilities".

The amendment to the Category for Persons with Disabilities under the "Aailee Boahiyaavahikan" (Family housing) program was done on 10th May. The ministry said that parents registered to the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) can now apply for flats starting from today until 15th June.

However, applications for flats and plots under all other categories that are active have a deadline of 31st May.

As the amendment has been brought about, the time requirement for persons with disabilities to have lived in Male' has been reduced.

The basic requirements for applying for housing under the Family Housing program have been being a resident of Malé for 15 years and being a registered person of Malé, with the flat application for persons with disabilities who have stayed in Male' for five consecutive years having been changed. Those who need to travel to Male' to acquire services for their disability and those who have relocated to Male' to acquire said services can also submit forms.

Under the current housing scheme, 7,900 flats and a total 15,000 plots spanning 1,250 square feet each will be given away.
