The structure of Addu City Council has been modified, and Atoll Councils along with the Hirimaradhoo Council have been dissolved today by a decree issued by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. 

Due to the amendment brought by the government to the Decentralization Act last year, the President's decree determined the dissolution of Atoll Councils upon the expiration of the term of the current Atoll Councilors. 

In place of Atoll Councils, it has been decided that Atoll Offices will be operated under the Local Government Authority (LGA).

Along with Atoll Councils, the Hirimaradhoo Council was also dissolved today.

In a decree issued last December, President Muizzu stated that Hirimaradhoo was temporarily designated as an uninhabited island because the Local Council Election was being held while the government was in the process of relocating the residents of Hirimaradhoo to Hanimaadhoo. 

Consequently, in the election held on 4th April, the residents of Hirimaradhoo voted to elect councilors for Hanimaadhoo.

The structural changes brought to Addu City Council today by the President's decree were made in accordance with the results of a public referendum. In that vote, both Meedhoo and Hulhudhoo decided to separate from Addu City Council.

The President's decree established separate Island Council administrations for "Addu Meedhoo" and "Addu Hulhudhoo." Furthermore, the region encompassing Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoofeydhoo, and Feydhoo has been designated as a single administrative island operating under the name "Addu City."
