Aminath Rizana, a special educational needs (SEN) teacher at Imaduddin School, has passed away after battling cancer for several years.

Rizana, 43, passed away today at Hulhumale' Hospital, where she had been receiving treatment.

She began her teaching career as a primary teacher in her home island of Raa atoll Dhuvaafaru before moving to Male', where she later taught at Hiriya School.

After serving as an SEN teacher at Hiriya School, she joined Imaduddin School on 23 October 2019 and remained with the school until her death.

Imaduddin School principal Ali Mamdhooh described Rizana as a compassionate and dedicated educator who remained deeply committed to her students despite her illness.

“She would always tell us she wanted to return to school, even when we visited her in hospital during her treatment,” he said.

He described her as an exemplary teacher who was approachable, gentle and greatly loved by her students.

Rizana’s funeral prayer will be held after Asr prayers at Hulhumale' Saraha Mosque.
