Applications have opened today for a total of 40 scholarship opportunities provided by the Maldives Zakat Fund.
Maldives Zakat House stated that applications are now open for higher education scholarships and special scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students who wish to pursue higher education in the Maldives and abroad.
According to the announcement made by the institution, opportunities will be granted under this scholarship program to study for Master's (Level 9) and PhD (Level 10) degrees in various Islamic fields.
These include fields such as Islamic Shari'ah, Quranic Studies, Islamic Education, Islamic Research and Publishing, Islamic Journalism, Aqeedah, Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, and Islamic Leadership and Management.
The announcement also noted that students studying in the Maldives will have the opportunity to study at the Islamic University of Maldives, Maldives National University, Villa College, Avid College, and Zikura College.
Opportunities abroad are open at universities such as Al-Azhar University of Egypt, International Islamic University Malaysia, INCEIF of Malaysia, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and the International Islamic University Islamabad in Pakistan.
While a total of 30 scholarships are scheduled to be granted under this opportunity, 10 slots have been designated for studying in the Maldives and 20 slots for studying abroad.
In addition, special scholarship schemes have also been introduced. These include five opportunities granted with a stipend for students currently studying in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and five special scholarships to train female doctors in fields related to women's health.
Main Requirements for the Scholarship:
- Must be a Maldivian citizen who has reached 18 years of age
- Must be a person in need of financial assistance
- Must meet the academic requirements necessary to enter the desired study program
- Must be a person enrolled in a full-time course accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority
- Must not be a person currently receiving financial assistance from the government or another institution
Zakat House stated that opportunities will also be available to submit applications to study in fields other than those included in the list. However, it noted that it must be a crucial field for the development of the Maldivian Islamic society.
Zakat House also stated that all required documents (academic transcripts, completed application forms, and relevant certification permits) must be included when submitting applications, and the evaluation of applications and selection of students will be carried out by the committee formed to provide higher education assistance from the Zakat Fund.

The deadline for submitting applications is 2:00 PM on the 16th of July.
