Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) chairperson Shamhooza Ahmed has been removed from both her position as chairperson and as a member of the company’s board. 

Privatization and Corporatization Board announced the dismissal in a post on X, but did not disclose a reason for the decision.

Shamhooza was appointed chairperson of MWSC on 16 January 2024.

Before joining the company, she served as the council executive of the Malé City Council and had previously worked as a director at the Housing Ministry.

Her removal comes amid a broader reshuffle in the leadership of state-owned enterprises, with the government recently appointing new managing directors to MWSC, STELCO and Fenaka Corporation.
