Staff Sergeant Mohamed Mahudhy displayed willingness and his capability in various major and risky Coast Guard operations. This is why he was at the frontline of the search and rescue operation for missing Italian divers who had gone missing inside a 60-meter cave.

Mahudhy, 43, sacrificed himself in his final moments while risking his life in service to the nation. His final act of service was diving into the cave today in search of four of the five missing tourists.

While referring to the Chief Spokesperson of President's Office Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), BBC stated that Mahudhy could not be found after the divers concluded their dive and surfaced. And so, other divers went in search of him. According to the spokesperson, Mahudhy was found unconscious.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu attended the military briefing of the search and rescue operation for the missing tourists yesterday evening, with Mahudhy having attended the briefing as well. He was taken to ADK Hospital for treatment but passed shortly after.

Many people acknowledged his sacrifice and prayed for him when this tragedy came to light, with those who knew him speaking of his willingness and capabilities.

Shafraz Naeem, experienced diver in Maldives and across various parts of the world, posted on X stating that Mahudhy is one of the bravest people he had worked with.

Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusan, who entered the military with Mahudhy 21 years ago and completed basic training side by side, took to Facebook and described Mahudhy as someone who was ethical and cared about his work. The minister highlighted that Mahudhy had completed various training courses, thousands of dives and had become one of the best divers in the military.

Ihusan went on to say that Mahudhy had taken part in high risk operations before as well, with him having dove 70 feet deep into the ocean.

"Not many people would understand the dangers search and rescue divers would face. Their real work begins when a situation gets out of hand and when risk rises. They will sacrifice their lives to save others and will carry out their duty without hesitation," said Ihusan.

According to the minister, Mahudhy is one of the most courageous people he had met, along with him being a true Maldivian hero. The minister also said that Mahudhy had made the greatest sacrifice while serving the nation during a dangerous operation.

Mahudhy's funeral prayer has been scheduled for 10:00pm tonight at the Islamic Center, with his funeral service beginning at 7:00pm.
