Parliamentary Group Leader of the People's National Congress (PNC) Ibrahim Falah has given a heated response to the combined statement of former Presidents Abdulla Yameen, Mohamed Nasheed and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The three former Presidents convened last night for the first time after having decided that they would work together. They signed an agreement to work for the freedom of press during the 30 minute meeting that was held last night.

In regards to the press conference that was held after the meeting, Falah took to X and stated that journalists were only able to ask questions according to the three former Presidents. 

Falah said that if the questions were not in line with their wishes, the questioning was brought to a halt, with journalists being reprimanded for bringing up the lack of investigations on President Solih's part into the deaths of blogger Yameen Rasheed and journalist Ahmed Rilwan during President Yameen's government.

Falah said that there was no room to discuss the "kidnapping" and imprisonment of a judge during President Nasheed's government, locking up the courts and the independence of the judiciary regarding the individual who "set fire" to the courts. He also said that the gifting of uninhabited islands to friends, corruption and robbery can be clearly seen.

Regarding Yameen, Falah said that the removal of the roofing from courts, threatening judges and the removal of 12 PM's from Parliament and the possessing the Parliament were all done during Yameen's government. 

Along with that, Falah indirectly motioned to Yameen's residence and stated that a small portion of the "stolen" funds from the state can be seen when looking at the residence. Falah also alleged that many individuals were harmed, with journalists having their mouths taped shut.

Falah's post reads that an MVR 60 billion debt was incurred onto the nation during President Solih's government and that MVR 2 billion was stolen as compensation and as a form of robbery.

Falah further said it is apparent that a portion of the ocean south of the Maldives was “sold” and that the Chagos Archipelago was “given away for money”.

He also claimed that, during former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, it was made a requirement that Supreme Court and High Court judges be removed from their positions after it was mandated for journalists to reveal their sources through courts.

“This is just a small part of how events had occurred after coming into power. Please think as to how much these people would care for the country and for its people. All there is is personal agenda,” Falah wrote in the post.

The agreement signed during the press conference held by the three former presidents states that the constitutional rights of citizens have been violated under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s administration. It also alleges that the judiciary has been influenced, and that the powers of Parliament and other state institutions have been undermined.

Additionally, the agreement also reads that freedom of press has been obstructed, journalists put in jail, the public's state of living has deteriorated, the economy has stalled and prices have gone up.
