Former Presidents Mohamed Nasheed, Abdulla Yameen and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih have held discussions tonight, following which they signed an agreement to work together. 

The three presidents held their first meeting tonight, lasting around half an hour. 

Following this, copies of the agreement signed by the leaders was shared with media as the three leaders held a brief press conference. 

The document reads that the administration of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has blatantly undermined constitutional rights of the citizens, exerted undue influence over the judiciary and undermined the parliament and other institutions. 

The agreement further states the administration is curbing press freedom, jailing journalists, harming the economy, lowering overall living standards, and driving up prices. 

The statement says the government has demonstrated an inability to address these issues, and that the public no longer trusts the administration to protect public funds and property. 

The agreement signed by Nasheed, Yameen and Solih says the three leaders have committed to working together to protect the democratic principles Maldivians fought for over many years, at a time when those rights are under threat. 

As a first move, the three leaders called on the State to free the two journalists jailed over breaching the Criminal Court gag order prohibiting direct and indirect discussion of the Adhadhu documentary, and to free individuals detained at subsequent protests demanding their release. They also called on the State to drop criminal charges against two other Adhadhu journalists.
