President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has observed the progress of the search and rescue operation being conducted to find the Italian divers who went missing while diving in Vaavu Atoll.
Upon the President's arrival at the area, the MNDF shared the plan for the search and rescue operation and briefed him on the efforts made so far to locate the divers. Accordingly, while the work to find the people is being carried out by dividing into different teams, the rescue team has completed one dive so far.
The President gave his full assurance that the government would arrange all necessary requirements for this major operation, which is being carried out in collaboration with relevant authorities and various stakeholders in the diving sector.
The President was accompanied by Home Minister Ali Ihusaan, Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam, Tourism Minister Mohamed Ameen, and Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
The five Italian tourists being sought went missing while out diving from a safari boat in Vaavu Atoll. Although one of them has been found dead, the remaining four people have not yet been located.
