President Dr Mohamed Muizzu last night reacted to the news of the three former Presidents meeting to discuss working together. 

He described them as people who had 'stabbed each other in the back and stepped on each others' necks' and said that while they have come out to talk about the nation, they are all nothing but failures. 

At a rally held last night to celebrate wins received in the April Local Council Elections, President Muizzu said that what is currently missing from the democratic political scene of Maldives is a responsible opposition. 

The President described the opposition as being engaged in child's play and said the country will receive no benefit from a group without any substance. 

"... people who have stabbed each other in their backs, who have stepped on each others' necks, they are coming out today and talking about the nation, but they are all, in fact, each of them just a failure. When complete failures come out and talk about the nation, I believe that us youth, when we analyze this, they will be truly very depressed," the President said. 

Former presidents Mohamed Nasheed, Abdulla Yameen and Ibrahim Mohamed Solih are set to meet tonight to discuss forming an alliance to work together. 

President Muizzu said that 'turning the pages of the past clearly puts their reality on display'. 

While conceding that the former presidents had carried out development projects, the President accused them of jailing individuals over mere speech. He alleged that they imprisoned political rivals and oversaw widespread corruption and brutality during their time in office. 

President Muizzu went on to say that it is too soon to forget about the 'ventilator theft' carried out during the Covid 19 pandemic in Solih's administration. He added he hopes relevant institutions will take action against those involved or found negligent in the act. He also called on relevant institutions to take action to protect the people's interests in relation to the MMPRC corruption scandal. 

President Muizzu went on to assert that he is striving to improve all affairs of the country. He said that foreign policy had lacked objectivity and shown clear bias towards certain nations when he had assumed office, but that he has now improved affairs to the point where Maldives is respected and accepted in the international sphere. 

"I give you the good news that the positive results of this will become evident soon," he said. 

The President affirmed that his stance is to promote a 'Maldives First' policy.
