Although Police earlier said that five Italian tourists who disappeared while diving from a liveaboard safari boat in Vaavu Atoll were found dead following a search operation, they have since issued a correction. 

Police have now said that while five tourists went missing, only one has been found deceased so far. 

Police said their earlier report that all missing persons had been found was issued in error by the search term. Only one individual has been located so far, and the search for the four others is ongoing, they said.

Police confirmed that all five individuals involved in the incident are tourists from Italy. 

Police said that they received reports of the tourists going missing at approximately 1:45pm today. A search was immediately launched for them.

Reports say that the five tourists who were guests on a foreigner-operated liveaboard vessel, Duke of York, went missing while diving near Alimathaa. They entered the water in the morning, and the crew reported them missing when they had not resurfaced even by noon. 

While Police have confirmed that they are investigating the death, police are yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the incident. 

Weather conditions at the dive site were also poor today, with the MET Office having a Yellow Alert issued over the area even at present.
