Police urge motorists to drive safely in rainy conditions

Following a tragic accident last night on the Hulhumale' highway which claimed the life of an Indian national, Police shared a social media post today urging motorists to exercise caution when driving in adverse weather conditions.

Police have today appealed to the public to take precautions when driving land vehicles during rainy weather conditions. 

Following a tragic accident last night on the Hulhumale' highway which claimed the life of an Indian national, Police shared a social media post today urging motorists to exercise caution when driving in adverse weather conditions. 

Police advised motorists to:

- Drive at safe speeds where they can maintain complete control of the vehicle

- Switching on headlights when driving in the rain

- Use sturdy, windproof raincoats

- Secure hijabs and scarves to prevent them from being lifted by the wind and obstructing vision

- Be aware and mindful of pedestrians

- Avoid using umbrellas when driving motorcycles

Authorities have also advised seafarers to take precautions and exercise caution due to rough seas and rainy weather across the country.
