Police have seized a large quantity of smuggled cigarettes that were allegedly being sold in Male' and Hulhumale'.
According to information published on the police website, police recovered 18 cases of tobacco products and 75 cartons of cigarettes following intelligence reports that various cigarette brands were being smuggled into the country for sale.
The items were seized from a house in Galolhu, an apartment in Hulhumale' Phase Two and a van believed to have been involved in the operation.
Photographs released by police showed boxes of Manchester-brand cigarettes among the seized items.
The vehicle linked to the case was towed by police, though no arrests have been made as of yet.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
