Parliament session extended until end of May

Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla proposed extending the session until May 31, citing important pending work that needs to be addressed within the session.

Although the regulations state the first parliament session of the year is to end tomorrow, it has now been extended until the end of May. 

Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla proposed extending the session until May 31, citing important pending work that needs to be addressed within the session. 

Of the 69 members who voted on the motion, 58 voted in favour of the extension. 11 MPs voted against the motion. 

Ongoing work in parliament includes bills sponsored by the government such as the Cyber Security Bill, Protection of Personal Information Bill, National Service Bill, and amendments to the Employment Act. 

Also due is the vote on approving nominated ambassadors to UAE and Qatar.
