Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has met with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar.

Iruthisham met with Jaishankar as part of her ongoing official visit to India.

The Foreign Ministry stated that during the meeting held at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, both ministers highlighted the long-standing close relationship between the Maldives and India.

Furthermore, the ministry noted that they acknowledged India’s role in the development of the Maldives and discussed ways to further strengthen the economic ties between the two nations.

This visit by Iruthisham to India follows an invitation from India’s Jaishankar. Additionally, this marks Iruthisham's first official trip abroad since assuming the position of Foreign Minister.

The ministry also stated that Iruthisham is accompanied on this trip by the Foreign Ministry’s Additional Secretary Dr. Ibrahim Zuhuree and Assistant Director Aminath Guraisha.

Iruthisham, who previously served as the Maldivian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, was appointed as Foreign Minister on the 14th of last month. Prior to her, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel held the position of Foreign Minister. Iruthisham is the third Foreign Minister of this administration.
