Deputy Speaker and MP for Dhiggaru constituency Ahmed Nazim has been removed today from ruling People's National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group's WhatsApp group. 

Although multiple PNC MPs have confirmed to Mihaaru that senior party official Nazim has been removed from the WhatsApp group, they did not disclose the reasons behind the decision. 

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu serves as admin for the group. 

Rumours arose following the party's loss in the Local Council Elections and referendum on election merger that a no-confidence vote was to be taken against Nazim, and that he was going to be removed from the post of Deputy Speaker. 

At the time, PG Leader Ibrahim Falah dismissed the claims. 

Nazim previously sat on two of the most key parliamentary committees. He was later removed from both, and currently sits only in the Environment Committee. 

The two committees Nazim was removed from are the Committee on National Security Services (241 Committee) and the Committee on Public Accounts. 

Nazim said then that PNC had decided to replace him on the committees as his commitments did not allow him to dedicate sufficient time to the committees. 

Nazim was elected Deputy Speaker, and Abdul Raheem Abdulla as Speaker, of the current 20th People's Majlis on May 28, 2024. 

Nazim's appointment came with 80 votes in favour amongst MPs, while his opponent, MDP's Maradhoo MP Ahmed Didi, received only 12 votes.
