President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced today that civil service staff who did not receive pay increments following pay harmonization will receive the pay raise from this month onwards. 

Speaking at the weekly Monday press briefing, President Muizzu stated that it had been brought to his attention that there are some civil service staff who did not receive the most appropriate benefits through pay harmonization, or faced loss. 

He said that this was not the intention behind his decision, and that he had pledged pay raises. However, owing to various factors, some staff had ended up with salary amounts lower than they previously received, he said. 

The President stated that this issue would be resolved when salaries for May are deposited. 

"All these issues will be resolved when salaries for this month are deposited. I obtained information about this this morning from the Pay Commission. I'm not saying that there may not be individual cases when salary is deposited this time, but generally the issue of those whose pay haven't increased will be resolved," the President said. 

The President further said that he had learned that the changes to the salary structure had not granted increments to staff in the legal sector and councils. 

"This especially involves how HRCM staff are very much at a disadvantage, staff in the legal sector. There are also similar cases with staff in certain posts in councils," the President said. 

The President said that the issues arose through efforts to harmonize pay which had been unstructured for several decades. He added that the Pay Commission had assured him this morning that the issues can be resolved.

If sufficient benefits are not reflected even after the salaries for this month are deposited, this, too, will be addressed, the President assured.
