President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government persistently aims to ensure that children are provided necessary healthcare and quality education.
In his Children's Day address, President Muizzu said that the occasion is an opportunity to renew the commitment to protecting children's rights and creating a healthy, joyful environment for them.
Children's are the country's future, he said, emphasizing that providing the younger generation with quality education and guidance is a major responsibility of the government and society as a whole.
He asserted that the government continuously strives to ensure children are provided with necessary healthcare and quality educational opportunities.
"The government is making sure that every Maldivian child is granted opportunity within the school system. One of the government's core policies is to safeguard children from every form of hardship and to ensure a secure environment for them," the President said.
The President raised concerns that modern devices given to children with the aim of exposing them to modern educational and entertainment options may instead be exposing them to irreversible risks.
He stated that parents and teachers alike must adopt new ways of thinking, and work collaboratively to bring up a healthy generation.
As they grow up, children are in need of love and caring, President Muizzu emphasized. As such, it is the responsibility of every adult to ensure that children are given encouragement and guidance both at home and at school, he reiterated.
"As today's children will be leading the nation tomorrow, we must all work together to ensure that the children are instilled with Islamic principles, Maldivian values, and good discipline," the President said.
The President also extended Children's Day wishes to children across the country and their families in a social media post.
