The expatriate who suffered serious burn injuries in the April 9 fire in F. Feeali has passed away. 

The deceased is 39-year old Bangladeshi national, Devola, who had been working as a crew member on the boat on which the fire originated. 

Devola sustained serious burn injuries and was initially treated t the Feeali Health Centre. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the F. Nilandhoo Hospital for further medical care on the same day, and then brought to capital Male' City. 

In Male', he was treated in the Intensive Care Unit at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). With 60% TBSA burns, he was kept on ventilator support until his passing.

IGMH also confirmed that Devola succumbed to his injuries on May 4. Arrangements were made yesterday to transfer his remains to his home country, Bangladesh. 

On April 9, a fire broke out on a fuel boat moored at the Feeali harbour, which then spread to surrounding boats as well as a nearby iceplant and fuel shed.   

The fire broke out at around 9:15am on that Thursday. It took responders nearly three hours to control the fire, by which time it had destroyed three boats and the island's ice plant. Feeali Council estimates the fire caused losses worth MVR 20 million.
