Maldives government has condemned recent drone and missile attacks targeting civilian sites and critical infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In a statement, the government described the attacks as a “blatant violation” of the UAE’s sovereignty and a serious threat to regional security and stability.
The Maldives government reaffirmed its solidarity with the UAE government and its people, and expressed support for measures taken to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
The government also called for restraint, urging all parties to avoid further escalation and to pursue dialogue and diplomatic efforts to ease tensions.
The incidents come in the days following a US-announced ceasefire in its war with Iran.
The UAE said it had intercepted and shot down drones and missiles allegedly launched from Iran, adding that the attacks had sparked a fire at a power plant. No further details were provided.
Iran’s military has denied responsibility for the attacks.
Regional Arab countries have also urged Iran to avoid renewed conflict, as tensions remain high.
The developments coincide with a US operation aimed at securing the Strait of Hormuz, a move Iran has warned would violate the ceasefire if foreign forces enter the waterway.
