At today's Criminal Court hearing, the prosecution said that the DNA report, a key piece of evidence in AbduRahman's death case, is still not complete. 

AbduRahman was discovered violently attacked by a group of assailants and fatally injured in his bedroom in AA. Maalhos on July 12, 2025. He succumbed to his injuries just hours after being rushed to the island's Health Centre.   

Three individuals from Maalhos were arrested in relation to the case. 

Ahmed Aashid, 27, of Fiya, Maalhos, is charged with intentional murder with a sharp weapon, while Mohamed Visham, 22, of Lilyfehi, Maalhos and Ahmed Faaris, 27, of Finivaage, Maalhos are charged with participating in the crime. 

Today's Criminal Court session was the second hearing in the case, which began in November last year. 

Charges against all three accused were read out in today's hearing. The court asked all three to respond to the charges. However, Shayyaah Khaleel, lawyer for all three defendants, said that the DNA report is crucial before they respond to the charges, and asked for the court to reach a decision regarding the report. 

The prosecution responded that the DNA report is still not ready. All other documents have been shared with the defence, they said. 

The prosecution also told the court they intend to seek an interim order before the defence responds to the charges, though no details were disclosed. The judge said a decision on the request will be made at the next hearing. 

The prosecution is seeking life imprisonment for Aashid, along with a fine of between MVR 3 million and 10 million. 

For Visham and Faris, the prosecution is seeking an 18 year prison sentence, and a fine of between MVR 2 million and 5 million.

The three were arrested in August last year, and have been held in remand in custody since until the end of trial.
