President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed arrived in Sri Lanka today on an official visit.
This marks the President’s first official visit to Sri Lanka since assuming office. Although the President arrived in Sri Lanka today, the official welcoming ceremony is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
The visit, which comes at the invitation of Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, will continue until next Wednesday.
The President’s Office stated that during this visit, he will meet with senior Sri Lankan officials to discuss further strengthening the ties between the two nations. Additionally, discussions will focus on seeking new avenues for cooperation in education, vocational training, economic collaboration, and administration, as well as heritage and working together on the international stage.
According to the President’s Office, several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in various sectors are also scheduled to be signed in the presence of both Presidents during the trip.
During the visit, President Muizzu will participate in the Maldives-Sri Lanka Business Forum. The President’s Office also noted that he will meet with Maldivian citizens residing in Sri Lanka.
The President’s Office further stated that the visit will facilitate discussions on various priority areas for both countries and the further strengthening of the close relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
In July 2025, President Dissanayake also visited the Maldives. That visit was made to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
