The Ministry of Housing has decided to close Sultan Park during specific hours for maintenance work, less than two months after it was reopened following a previous renovation.

Sultan Park was closed for a three-month period starting in August last year for practical redevelopment work. Prior to that, since June 2024, certain interior areas of the park had already been closed to the public. After undergoing significant repairs due to its dilapidated state, the park was reopened in March of this year to coincide with Eid al-Fitr.

In an announcement made today, the Housing Ministry stated that additional work required under the Sultan Park renovation project will be carried out daily starting from 6:00 PM, effective from today.

Consequently, Sultan Park will be temporarily closed to the public during those hours. The Ministry also apologized for any inconvenience this may cause to the general public.

Sultan Park was developed in its current form during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen, while President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu served as the Housing Minister. Although it was developed with a "Snow Park" at the time, that facility was later closed.

The President previously stated that the lush, green Sultan Park would be redeveloped to provide enjoyment for all age groups, featuring walkways connecting the large trees. He also mentioned at the time that the park is being redeveloped to showcase Maldivian identity and history, and that once the work is complete, arrangements will be made for various sports to be played there.
