Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has reduced jet fuel prices in a move aimed at easing costs for airlines operating to Maldives.
Speaking at a press conference by the special committee formed to monitor the effects of the Middle East War held at the President’s Office yesterday, Transport and Tourism minister Mohamed Ameen said the government took the decision following the recent spike in global fuel prices.
After discussions with MACL, which operates Velana International Airport, the price of jet fuel was cut by USD 0.25 per litre from last Friday, he said.
The reduction follows a price hike last month, when MACL increased jet fuel prices from USD 1.19 to USD 1.69 per litre amid rising global fuel costs. Jet fuel is now priced at USD 1.44 per litre.
Minister Ameen said the lower fuel prices are expected to encourage airlines to expand operations to Maldives.
“Some airlines have already decided to increase their flights, and more are expected to follow,” he said.
