Maldives Correctional Service has announced recruitment for prison officers, including positions linked to the country’s new open prison island.

In an announcement issued, Corrections said it is seeking permanent officers at Public Ranking 3 level, though the number of vacancies was not disclosed.

The role carries a basic salary of MVR 6,050, with an additional allowance of MVR 5,500.

Successful applicants will be assigned to facilities including Maafushi Prison, the custodial jail, Asseyri Prison and the newly developed open prison island.

Candidates must be between 18 and 35 years old and in good health to carry out the duties of a prison officer.

Applications, including CVs and supporting documents, must be submitted by 14 May. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview.

Under the open prison model, an entire island will function as a correctional facility, with a focus on rehabilitation. Inmates will be able to live and work within the island environment under supervised conditions.

Construction of the facility is under way, with plans to begin transferring prisoners later this year.
