Dengue cases in the first four months of this year have risen more than fourfold compared with the same period in 2025, Health Protection Agency (HPA) said.
A total of 2,183 cases were reported between January and April this year, up from 374 cases during the same period last year.
Monthly figures show a sharp increase:
- January saw 679 cases, up from 75 cases in January last year
- February saw 428 cases, up from 87 cases in February last year
- March saw 600 cases, up from 76 cases in March last year
- April saw 476 cases so far, up from 135 cases in April last year
HPA said cases have been rising since the start of the year.
The agency reported a surge in cold and flu cases as well, particularly in atolls outside Male'. Between 22 March and 18 April, 21,687 cases were recorded, including 11,792 in the atolls and 9,894 in the Male' area.
Influenza cases have also increased.
In January, 99 out of 791 people tested positive. In February, eight out of 134 tested positive, while March recorded five positives from 105 tests. So far this month, 18 of 89 people tested have been confirmed with influenza.
