Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed and Health Minister Geela Ali have met to discuss challenges facing mental health services in the Maldives.

According to police website, the meeting focused on the need for closer coordination among relevant institutions to improve access to care.

The commissioner highlighted challenges faced by police in responding to mental health-related cases and in improving service delivery in the sector.

Both sides also discussed launching nationwide awareness programmes targeting all age groups, and strengthening systems to ensure timely access to support for those in need, regardless of location.

The meeting comes amid growing concern over mental health, with recent reports of suicides prompting calls for stronger intervention and support services.
