Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC) has ordered Channel 13 to stop live-casting People's National Front (PNF)'s protests.

PNF, led by former President Abdulla Yameen, has been holding serial protests near the Artificial Beach every night following the recent Local Council Elections.

Channel 13 stated that they received a letter, signed by Media Commission Secretary General Hamdhy Ageel, ordering them to stop broadcasting the protests live.

The letter, seen by Mihaaru News, says that while PNF protests are being live-cast, some footage and remarks made at the protest violate social norms and media disciplinary standards.

It further states that after the issue came to their notice, the Commission had instructed Channel 13 via a letter on April 20, to delay the broadcast by 1 minute. The commission had also later twice advised senior officials of the channel via phone calls, the letter said.

However, the channel continued to broadcast the protests live without the instructed delay, the commission said. Owing to this, the commission has now ordered Ring Pvt Ltd, which operates the channel, to halt live-casting the protests until a legal decision is made on the matter.
