Police have stated today that the investigation into the suspected arson at G. Hiyaa Roadhi has been completed, and the case sent for prosecution.

The investigation into the March 18 fire incident was completed and forwarded to the PG Office on April 21, according to Police.

Hussain Shahban, 29, of Shabnam House, L. Maabaidhoo was arrested in relation to the case, and Police said today that the court has now placed him in remand in custody until the end of trial.

He was initially remanded for 5 days, with it later extended by an additional 30 days.

As per the court order, Shahban was arrested after CCTV footage was shared on social media showing a man enter G. Hiyaa Roadhi about six minutes before the fire breaks out.

The premises were being used as a warehouse. The fire occurred at around 11am on March 18.

The video, initially posted by an anonymous account, shows a man in a black and white checkered shirt and dark sunglasses arrive on a Honda Wave motorcycle, park it and enter Hiyaa Roadhi.

As per the timestamps in the video, he enters the house at 10:33am. He is seen leaving just minutes later, at 10:39. By 10:43, smoke is seen billowing out of the building, with crowds beginning to gather.

By the time firefighters managed to put out the fire, the warehouse was burned beyond use.
