Male' City Mayor Adam Azim was attacked tonight while he was at the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) protest. 

Azim was leading the protest tonight. MDP has been holding serial protests for over a week now, after having issued twelve urgent demands to the government. 

While the protesters were walking near Henveiru Cemetery, a young man ran out in front and shoved Azim in the chest. 

The attack was caught on footage as the protest was being streamed live on TV channels. 

As soon as the youth shoved Azim, protesters moved in to shield the mayor and pushed the youth away. Protesters reacted angrily to the incident, while protest leaders worked to calm the crowd. 

MDP Interim Chairperson Abdul Ghafoor Moosa condemned the attack on Azim. He shared a post on X, sharing footage of the incident while calling on police to investigate the incident and provide the mayor with protection.
