Utility services that were being maintained in three atolls by Fenaka have been handed over to STELCO today.
According to the statement that was released by the Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises last night, the services being maintained by Fenaka at Baa Atoll, Lhaviyani Atoll and Meemu Atoll have been brought under the purview of STELCO in order to offer services of better quality to the public.
STELCO's Acting Managing Director Dr. Ali Azwar and Fenaka Corporation's Deputy Managing Director Adam Thaufeeg signed the handover agreement today regarding the electrical, water and sewage services of 25 inhabited islands across the three atolls.
The ministry said that this decision is part of the government reforms to the state's management system. The ministry also said that the purpose of this is to further ensure the provision of continuous services, to strengthen operations and to facilitate a path where the public can receive fundamental services.
STELCO is currently providing utility services to Kaafu Atoll, Alif Alif Atoll, Alif Dhaalu Atoll and Vaavu Atoll, along with the Male' region. And with the newly added islands, the company will be serving 61 islands.
"In order to enforce this decision, the biggest priority will be given to provide continuous electricity and other services. Changes to staff and resources have been smooth, with secure arrangements that will offer better services than before being made," as was written in the statement.
