Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has launched an investigation into the death of the 18 year old girl at the Maldives National University dormitory Dhanaal.

HRCM also called to refrain from disclosing personal details regarding the victim and the incident. 

HRCM announced on social media, three days after the death, that it has initiated an investigation into the case. 

They appealed to all to not circulate unverified claims or personal information regarding the incident, and to avoid actions that could undermine the dignity of the deceased.

The girl, who Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusan stated had a prior history of mental health issues and had been under treatment, was found deceased in the early hours of Tuesday in her room in Dhanaal. 

There was widespread speculation surrounding the death in the public sphere after the death was reported. 

In a press briefing held at the President's Office yesterday, Minister Ihusan addressed these claims, releasing a timeline of events prior to the death, including text messages between the deceased and Police's Victim Support unit on the night of her death. 

This has received public backlash, with many condemning the Minister's decision to publicly reveal messages sent by the deceased in her vulnerable state. 

As per the timeline released, over 5 hours passed between the first message sent to the Victim Support unit by the deceased, and officers being dispatched to Dhanaal to check on her status, by which time she was already deceased.
