Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Moosa Zameer has been appointed as the President of the Local Government Authority (LGA).

According to the LGA website, Zameer was appointed as the President of the eight-member LGA Board last Tuesday. While the CEO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the LGA, the President's responsibility is to convene and preside over board meetings. Both positions are appointed by the President of the Maldives.

The previous President of the board was Adam Shareef Umar, who served as the Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works. However, following his resignation on the 14th of this month, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu abolished that ministry as part of a broader cabinet restructuring.

According to the Decentralization Act, the President of the LGA must always be the Cabinet Minister designated by the President to be accountable for the authority's work.
