Renowned businessman and former  Kaashidhoo MP, Abdulla Jabir, signed with the PNC today.

Jabir told "Mihaaru News" that he decided to join the ruling party after seeing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s democratic policies and his efforts toward national development.

"I am very fond of (President Muizzu's policy), his diligence, hard work, and the speed at which the President works. Therefore, (I joined PNC) to work alongside him with my political experience," Jabir said.

According to Jabir, his first and most important task within the PNC at this moment will be to help the party win the Addu Hithadhoo North seat in the by-election scheduled for June 6th.

Contesting the PNC primary are former MP for the constituency Mohamed Sinaan and Hithadhoo Moolekede councillor Ahmed Saeed (Sodaa).

"I will work very hard to win the Hithadhoo North seat. God willing, (PNC) will win that seat. I will work with whoever receives the PNC ticket," Jabir said.

Jabir stated that the result of him joining the PNC would be the youth joining the party "in masses".

He said the party plans to introduce targeted initiatives for young people, including establishing PNC Youth Houses (dedicated youth spaces) in Hulhumalé as well as Malé.

Jabir has previously held senior positions in various parties. In this regard, he served as the Leader of the DRP and the Deputy President of the JP.

After serving as an Advisor to the President of MDP, Jabir also proposed the formation of a party named the "Green Party" in 2023. However, it was not registered as it failed to meet the required number of members.

Jabir, who was seen with the main opposition party MDP during the last presidential election, had stayed away from the political arena before reappearing in political work during the PNC campaign for the local council elections held on the 4th of this month. Jabir also participated in the PNC "door-to-door" activities in Malé led by President Muizzu.
