Mayor of Addu Ali Nizar has decided that he will work together with former President Mohamed Nasheed in his quest to obtain the position of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson, and with former President Mohamed Nasheed and former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail in Nasheed's work to get Fayyaz elected as the President.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has already begun campaigning for the MDP's Chairperson election. In addition, Nasheed has also endorsed Fayyaz for MDP's presidential ticket for the 2028 Presidential Elections.

In a time where campaign excitement has reached a high within the opposition MDP, Mayor of Addu Ali Nizar posted on his Facebook page last night, announcing that he stands with Nasheed and Fayyaz.

Nizar, who was re-elected as the Mayor of Addu in the 4th April Local Council Election, said that there are obstacles in the journey towards proper governance in Maldives. He said that the opposing political ideologies, especially against MDP, are authoritarian in nature, with MDP's management needing to be strengthened in such a situation and to move toward a new direction.

"Former President Mohamed Nasheed running for the position of MDP's Chairperson and deciding to become active again in the party during such a critical juncture will serve as progress in the political work being done by MDP," said Nizar.

"Not only that, former President Nasheed stating that he will support former MDP Chairperson Fayyaz in obtaining MDP's ticket for the 2028 Presidential Election is a valued decision that I greatly support."

According to Nizar, Fayyaz is an able political leader who has the courage to bring about the necessary major political reform in such a time.

Along with Nasheed, South Galolhu constituency MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem and former MP Alhan Fahmy have also announced that they will be running in the election of MDP's Chairperson.
