A man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexual abuse of a man with disabilities. 

The convicted man has been identified as Abdulla Waheed Moosa, 59, of Navaa, Funaadu, Fuvahmulah.

Police said that the court considers the 1 year, 7 months and 9 days that Moosa spent in remand during investigation as time served. As such, he now has to serve a prison term of 16 years, 4 months and 21 days. 

Police said that the case marks a significant success in their efforts to investigate and prosecute sexual offences committed against persons with disabilities.
