It's the time of the year again for the annual "Sausage Sizzle" community barbeque event hosted by the Australia High Commission in Maldives.

This year's Sausage Sizzle will be held this Saturday, April 25, at the Lonuziyaaraiy Park from 4 to 6pm.

For those who are wondering what a "Sausage Sizzle" is, it's exactly what it sounds like.

In Australia, a sausage sizzle is a popular cultural event where grilled sausages are served in a slice of bread, topped with caramelized onions and sauce. The event is held as part of a donation drive for local groups, charity or schools.

The event is open to the public, with a special welcome to those who have educational, family, or business ties to Australia.

Proceeds will support a local Maldivian NGO, and attendees are encouraged to contribute through donations. For every MVR 20 donated, participants will receive an Aussie-style sausage and a lamington, the iconic Australian cake, the High Commission said.

The beneficiary NGO for this year's event is Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives (BVISM).

The Maldives Australia Alumni Association has also organized a Book Drive for the event. Guests are encouraged to donate a book, with all contributions going to school and community libraries across the atolls.

The High Commission said that the gathering seeks to celebrate community spirit in the Maldives, promote charitable giving, and celebrate the longstanding people-to-people connections between Maldives and Australia.
